1. Organisation Unit Purpose (why does the unit exist? What are the results the unit is expected to deliver?)
The Data Platform team is an enterprise data team that harvests data from internal and external data sources and publishes data to consumers e.g. operational and analytical users of data. The Enterprise Data Platform team is an enabler to key functional areas e.g. Analytics, Digital, Compliance, Risk and Marketing.
The Data Platform team is also responsible for enterprise reporting, creating operational and analytical dashboards for all business units and entities, leveraging the Hadoop and SAP Hana data stores and Microsoft Power BI for data visualization.
2. Job Purpose (Why does the job exist? What is the unique contribution made by the job holder?)
The AVP Data Ingestion leads a team of Data practitioners – Senior Data Engineers and Data Engineers. The role is mainly an operational role, ensuring the data ingestion process is well managed and delivery focused, ensuring delivery commitments are achieved. The role also is required to ensure architectural standards and patterns are defined and adhered to and optimize the data ingestion process..
The AVP Data Ingestion is responsible and accountable for data integration i.e. loading data from source systems into the data platofrms, Hadoop, HANA Financial Services Data Platform or any other platforms. The main tools of use is Informatica Big Data Management. Going forward the data ingestion will include real-time data ingestion using KAFKA and Informatica Big Data Streaming. The role is required to work closely with Business and Technology stakeholders.
This role involves ensuring the data pipelines are defined and the process of loading the data is resourced with highly skilled Senior Data Engineers and Data Engineers. A key part of the role is resource management e.g. working with resource vendors scaling to provide resources to meet delivery demand. A key requirement is Servant Leadership, creating an environment where the data engineers are empowered and encouraged to grow and build expertise and ownership. The role involves team management including recruiting of FTE and contractors and ensuring individuals’ careers and performance is managed according to HR policies.
The role requires an Agile mindset as well as building an Agile culture as defined by the LEAP Strategy. The role also is required to adopt a continuous improvement approach to delivery and automation implementation e.g. DevOps, CI/CD. For example as part of a well managed platform, source code is promoted in a rigorous and auditable manner.
As part of good data management the role will ensure data is profiled and meta-data is captured.
